Zippo Handy warmer - must item in the coldest season -

I will show you my favorite item which I am utilizing everyday in cold winter season.

It is a pocket heater, but not disposal pocket heater,
is a real pocket heater warmed by lighter fuel.

It was famous in Japan aka "Hakkin Kairo ".
Recently it is sold from Zippo handy warmer,
might be OEMed from the Hakkin warmers co.,Ltd.

The disposal pocket warmer would not
be warmed that much in a very cold day.
However the handy warmer will be heated
very very well thanks to lighter fuel.

You could get the fuel in most of the
convenience store chain such as 7eleven.

Surprisingly, the fuel is not burned but generate
great deal of heat by chemically break-downed
to carbon dioxide and steam with
platinum (hakukin, hakkin).as catalytic substance.
So it's clean and green.

The fuel is actually benzine (not benzene)which mainly consists of hexane.

If you familiarized chemical formula.

      2C6H14 + 19O2 →   12CO2 + 14H2O (+heat)

This is same formula as burning case of hexane,
which means you can get much much heat quantity.
Platinum(Pt) is not appeared because is it catalytic substance.


Effect duration comparison

  It will last 1hour by 1ml. The tank capacity is 24ml,
  you can be heated constantly almost 1day maximum.  

[Disposal pocket warmer]
  almost 20hours warm. Hot at first
  but decreasing in temperature gradually.

How to ignite

1. Measure necessary amount of oil by measuring cup (1ml = 1hour)
2. Pour the oil from the measuring cup into handy warmer tank.
3. Burn top of the burner element part which is platinum catalyzed glass fiber.
4. Complete when you set the top cover cap and set it into fleece pouch.

May be, you would be enjoying this procedure as routine.

Any other points

• You can turn off if you put the burner element part from main body.
• I am utilizing it in my bed when sleeping and turn it off when arriving at my office in morning.
• It's hard to control accurate duration time, but you could control by amount of oil.
• Running the oil over the burner element would cause shorten the life time of the burner.
• Burner element pars are compatible between Hakkin and Zippo, which cost around JPY800.
• Hakkin burner element is better and heated much more than Zippo, I felt.
• Major oil brands are Zippo oil or Hakkin benzine.
• "Lighter fluid" by "E-A Riaru Co.ltd." can be puchased at "Konan" but not better than Zippo.
• Zippo oil can be purchased at major convenience stores chains (Not lower price, though).
